The Resilience, Sustainable Energy and Marine Biodiversity Programme (RESEMBID) recently awarded the Government of Anguilla, Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, Utilities, Housing and Tourism (MICUH&T) €987,878.01 (Euros) via a project titled to “Streamlining Anguilla’s Energy Sector towards a More Sustainable Future”, which was officially launched on 22 February 2023.
RESEMBID, funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France, the development corporation agency of the Government of France supports sustainable human development efforts in Twelve (12) Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) of which Anguilla is included.
The fifteen (15) month Project,'”Streamlining Anguilla’s Energy Sector towards a More Sustainable Future” will support future renewable energy development, improve public knowledge awareness, and strengthen institutional capacities and competencies to lead the energy transition. In addition, the project will develop proof of concept activities to inspire increased uptake of energy efficiency and energy-efficient technologies such as Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Anguilla.
The Government of Anguilla’s vision for energy independence is described in the National Energy Policy (NEP). The NEP prioritises “the ability of the island to meet its vital energy needs with reliable, affordable, and renewable energy resources” by reducing the reliance on imported fossil fuels in Anguilla.

The Hon. Minister of Infrastructure, Mr. Hayden Hughes, and the Hon. Minister of Sustainability, Mrs. Quincia Gumbs-Marie both lauded the benefits of the project with the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures that will progress the energy Transition to a more sustainable Anguilla.
